Stump Removal
The call usually comes after a tree removal, or when an old stump has been sitting in a yard or on a lot long enough that it is in the way. We dig the stump and root ball out of the ground whole with our excavation equipment and attachments, then backfill the hole and rough grade it so the ground can be mowed, built on or graded over. A stump left in the ground takes up space, trips the mower and stops you from building or grading there. Pulling it out whole clears the way. If you have a stump in the path of a driveway, a pad, a fence line or just a spot you want to use, that is the job.
What digging out a stump involves
- 01Reviewing utility locating during the project assessment, so it is clear who calls 811 before any digging starts.
- 02Exposing the stump and tracing the main roots so we know how much has to come out.
- 03Cutting the big anchor roots so the stump can be pried loose instead of dragged out with half the lot.
- 04Digging and prying the stump and root ball out of the ground whole.
- 05Talking through what happens to the stump and root material before we start, so nothing is left that you did not plan for.
- 06Backfilling the hole and compacting it so the ground does not settle into a dip later.
- 07A rough grade over the area so the spot is level enough to mow, build on or grade to finish.
Residential, Commercial & Agricultural Stump Work
Residential
On a home lot it is usually one or two stumps in a yard or along a fence, dug out and backfilled so the ground can be mowed or built on. We keep the machine footprint tight, protect the turf we can and leave the spot clean and filled rather than a hole in the lawn.
Commercial
Commercial stump removal often means a row of stumps along a parking edge or across a future pad. We plan the dig sequence up front so the ground is cleared, backfilled and ready for the next step.
Agricultural
Agricultural stump removal pulls stumps out of pastures and fence lines so the ground can be mowed, hayed or worked. We dig the stump and root ball out whole, then backfill and rough grade the hole so you are not dodging a hole or a tripping hazard in the field.
