Drainage & Trenching
Proper drainage protects buildings, driveways, and usable land from erosion and unwanted water accumulation. Mattingly Excavating provides drainage excavation, trenching, and grading services for residential, commercial, and agricultural properties. We evaluate site conditions and recommend practical improvements based on the specific problem and project requirements.
Common Drainage Projects
- Yard, pasture, and property drainage
- Driveway and access-road runoff
- Drainage around buildings and work areas
- Drainage trenches, culverts, and pipe installation where included in the agreed scope
How We Approach a Drainage Job
Every property drains differently. We look at existing grades, water flow, soil conditions, and the surrounding improvements before recommending an approach. Depending on the project, work may involve reshaping the ground, excavating a drainage trench, preparing for pipe installation, or improving the flow of surface runoff. The proposed approach is based on the specific conditions of the property. Because we also handle site preparation and grading, we can often combine grading and drainage work as one project.

Trenching for Drainage Lines
We dig trenches to the depth and grade a drainage line needs, bed the line properly, and backfill and clean up when it's done. On paved sites, we cut through the existing concrete or asphalt to get the line where it needs to go.
A Recent Drainage Job
Drainage trench and restoration prep on a tight, paved work area. We cut through the existing concrete, excavated the trench and installed the pipe, leaving the area prepped for restoration.
Residential, Commercial & Agricultural
Residential
Homeowners call us for wet yards and runoff problems around the house.
Commercial
Businesses call us for parking lots and paved areas that hold water.
Agricultural
Farm and acreage owners call us for wet fields, pasture low spots and water crossing lanes.
We handle drainage work for all three across Central Kentucky and Southern Indiana.
Before We Come Out
If you can, take photos of the problem area during or right after a rain. Note where the water seems to come from and where it ends up, and point out any drains, grates or downspouts nearby. Utility locating requirements are reviewed during your project assessment, before any digging starts.
